Notorious RBG.

UPDATE 10/4: We were able to raise $300! We were able to donate $100 to each of the 3 organizations below, following in RBG's path. Thank you to every person who donated!

I am so saddened by the loss of this incredible, unmatched woman and her fight for human rights everywhere. As soon as I heard of her passing (after I cried an audible "NO...") I knew I wanted to create a portrait of her and use it to raise money. I didn't think I had the time between my semester work, other commissions due this week, and work has me at extra hours each week this month...but I could not stop thinking about it. I couldn't let myself not create this tribute. I adjusted my entire schedule in order to complete everything I needed to while bringing a semblance of this incomparable woman back to life. She challenged every issue and every person that got in her way, and in the way of others' rights - I couldn't complain about working on overdrive for one week, and I was more than happy to for this monumental woman.

Hosted through the nonprofit organization I've co-founded with other amazing activists (The Reflection Zone), we are raffling this portrait and donating 100% of the proceeds to 3 different organizations that continue her fight. We wanted to choose places that follow her footsteps, focusing on women's and reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and intersectionality. Specifically, places that work on the ground - direct legal help, changing policies, and organizations run by POC and the communities being fought for. Please read more about these organizations below.

How to enter for your chance to win this portrait:

  1. Entries are $10. Multiple entries may be submitted ($30 = 3 entries).

  2. Venmo or PayPal @KarinaSorensen your entry with your email address so the winner can be reached (click here for credibility).

  3. The winner will be randomly chosen on Sunday, 10/4 and notified via email. 100% of the profits will be donated equally between the 3 organizations. Must live in the U.S.

The organizations that will receive equal distributions of the funds:

  • Center for Reproductive Rights: The "only global legal advocacy organization dedicated to reproductive rights, with expertise in both U.S. constitutional and international human rights law." https://reproductiverights.org/about-us

  • URGE: Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity: "To achieve our vision of liberation, URGE builds power and sustains a young people’s movement for reproductive justice by centering the leadership of young people of color who are women, queer, trans, nonbinary, and people of low-income." https://urge.org/about/mission-and-values/

  • National Center for Transgender Equality: "The National Center for Transgender Equality advocates to change policies and society to increase understanding and acceptance of transgender people. In the nation’s capital and throughout the country, NCTE works to replace disrespect, discrimination, and violence with empathy, opportunity, and justice." https://transequality.org/about

In May, I used my art to raise money in honor of George Floyd - together, we were able to raise $1,000. I frequently donate portions of my custom portrait profits to CPR Dogs in Southbury, CT. And now I am so excited and honored to do this, for RBG and to help our future. To make positive contributions through my art is the best thing I could have ever dreamed of, and I am so incredibly humbled.

Let's raise money for the notorious RBG. Thank you. ♥️

I've shared before that my portrait business essentially fell into my lap...which I know not too many people have the privilege of saying. I owe the start of my tiny business to my dad in 2015, showin
